To bring everyone - law enforcement, youth, families, organizations, and runners - together to honor the memory of fallen law enforcement officers and the survivors they left behind.
Let's talk about the folks behind the scenes – an outstanding league of volunteers from the University of Missouri Police Department, the Columbia Police Department, the Boone County Sheriff's Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and an incredible network of family, friends, and die-hard supporters of our law enforcement heroes. Together, we're setting the world ablaze with a beacon of hope and camaraderie that grows brighter with every step we take. 💫
In the wake of the tragic 2016 Dallas police shooting, the story of Molly's Miles begins. It's a story of compassion, determination, and a relentless desire to make a difference.
Meet MUPD Lt. Buddy Anliker and his wife, Christie, a couple moved by an unwavering purpose. Witnessing the pain of those who lost their loved ones in the line of duty, they knew they had to act.
Their journey led them to the Missouri Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.), an organization dedicated to rebuilding the shattered lives of Missouri's law enforcement survivors. Recognizing the vital role of support, the Anlikers saw an opportunity to help.
Guided by their shared love for running, a brilliant idea was born. They envisioned a law enforcement-friendly 5K walk/run, a heartfelt tribute to fallen officers, and a resounding salute to their survivors. Every step taken would be a step toward hope and healing.
This event, now known as Molly's Miles, carries a name that resonates with significance. It's a nod to the memory of Columbia Police Officer Molly Bowden, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty in 2005.
This is the story of Molly's Miles, a story of unity, remembrance, and unwavering support for those who serve and protect.
